Despite advances in the past years by some of the other OEM laser printing system manufacturers, Hewlett-Packard remains a clear leader in the field of laser technology and toner powder research. HP has, by far, placed more laser printing systems domestically and worldwide than all other manufacturers, not excluding Lexmark. Since 2000, HP has released a variety of color laser printing systems, many more models and those more economical than before. Color laser printing systems, even from HP, are moving into a price range making them possible for even smaller workgroups and offices. Beginning with the HP Color Laserjet 4500, HP has begun incorporating new chips onto their color toner powder print cartridges and OPC units, as well as some of their B/W toner powder print cartridges. Their newest innovation in laser printing technology has been the development of chemically-grown or polymerized color toner powders, featured first in the HP Color Laserjet 4600 color laser printing systems.
